Joomla installation issues
Reply Quote

Hello,

I recently moved my hosting to WebHost4Life and I am currently in the porcess of trying to move some Joomla sites to my account.  Things are not going very smoothly.  To start with I was not able to log into the administration panel for bout 2 days, then suddenly I was able to log in.  This makes no sense to me at all, but it seems to be working now.  I'll try to install another instance of Joomla 1.0.12 and report back on this issue.  Here are a couple issues I am having... perhaps others have experienced these issues and have the solution (which is likely right in front of me but I m stumped)....

1.  The following PHP seetings are incorrect.  I can correct the Joomla RG_EMULATION setting in the Joomla configuration.php file, but how are the others changed?

  • PHP magic_quotes_gpc setting is `OFF` instead of `ON`
  • PHP register_globals setting is `ON` instead of `OFF`
  • Joomla! RG_EMULATION setting is `ON` instead of `OFF` in file globals.php
`ON` by default for compatibility reasons

2.  Another problem is that once in the adminstration panel I am not able to install any components, modules, templates etc.  Install from directory  is the default setting D:\hosting\member\stevezaccari\zaccarifamily\administrator\components\com_installer\component

Upon trying to upload anything, the following error is received:

Upload component - Upload Error

Failed to move uploaded file to /media directory.

Has anyone else experienced these issues?

Thanks,

Steve

Not sure if someone answered your question.  I was having the same problem and Alvin at the support desk gave me this suggestion and it worked:

Since we are hosting with windows servers, not a Linux/UNIX box, we can not set the permission to 777/755 like the UNIX environment. For security reason, the default permission for a new create folder is only "read".

For setting the write/read/delete permission in our server, please set the "IUSER_username", "IUSER_DediXXX", “ASPNET”, "Newtork", and "Network service" for "Read/Write/Delete" access.

Location to Set File Permission in Control Panel:
Securtiy >> site access (right hand side) >> File permission
Also please tick "Propagate changes to sub directories and files" when appling the permission.

Thanks.  I had received a similar email from the helpdesk and it seemed to work.

Cheers.

Steve
