We'll have php4 and 5 running side by side by next week and a option will be given at the contorl panel to choose the version you need per site.  Might be sooner depends on which server you are on.

Not every server (it seems) has both PHP4 and PHP5 installed.  It's supposed to be an easy setting in your control panel but I couldn't see it in the control panel for my account.  When I asked about getting that option turned on, I was told I could pay a $20 server migration fee.

I find it interesting that new users get that functionality available to them (http://www.webhost4life.com/hosting_nosetup.asp) but long-time users have to pay for it.  Maybe it's time to shop elsewhere...

Unfortunately, some of the old server can't be configured to run php4 and php5 together. So the only option is to move you to another server.  In that case, we'll have to charge you to cover the time that it take for us to move you.  Honestly, $20 doesn't even cover 1/2 of it.

Gee that's risking it in my opinion by shopping else where, webhost4life are a fast and reliable web hosting service, they maybe a bit more expensive than some of the other cheaper hosting providers but there service is the best I have come accross out of several other hosting services I have used in the past.

You'lle never find the perfect hosting, but can you really afford to change or risk changing to something that may end you up in a worse state than before?

I don't think people have no idea about the time and effort and what's involved in running a web hosting service.

Yes, it is worth the risk. I have dozens of sites and use several ISP's.  I've never been charged to move a site from IIS 5 - 6, nor to upgrade from ASP.NET 1.1 to 2.0.  I'll not be charged to move from PHP 4, (broken, insecure and years outdated) to a PHP 5.2.x site.

It's risky for the ISP to continue to offer PHP 4.

Oh, and I've also experienced the actual complications and issues not only as a former upper level employee with an ISP, but also as a CIO for a bank with 28 locations in the US.

I'va absolutely no complaints about the service and value here, but from a business point of view, it isn't good to charge to move from a insecure web scripting language to a proven secure and solid version which is now 3+ years old.

In 80 days I'll be on PHP 5.2 or be at a new host, (not that I want to go...I don't).

I understand to a point, php5 is obviously is better with some bullet proof security issues fixed, but php4.3x can be made very secure if you have the right skills and know how to make it secure, no matter what version, there's always going be security issues with any script language, it all comes do to knowing your stuff as a programmer to get the job done. I wish you the best with it all; maybe approach the support again to work out some kind of arrangement without getting into a heated discussion would be my approach.
It must be real hard though to please everyone especially on shared server situations where one user want’s this turned on and the other user want’s it turned off, I can see the support team pulling there hair out sometimes.

rdivilbiss,
Were you able to get this resolved.  I am having the same issue.  I've been a customer for 3+ years.  I usually work in .Net, but have been doing a little PHP lately and they have my sites running PHP 4.3.11-DEV.

IT'S NOT EVEN A PRODUCTION VERSION!

Sorry for yelling, but this drives me nuts.  I'm getting penalized for being a current customer!

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
